Community and World Outreach

“Never doubt that a thoughtful, committed individual can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” – Margaret Mead, Anthropologist

“We are servants in a needy world” – expressed so beautifully by church member, David Smith

The role of the Community and World Outreach Ministry Division is to assist the congregation to express its community and world outreach responsibility through relationships and funding both globally and locally. This includes, but is not limited to, involvement in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), special offering promotions, ministries to the marginalized, and enlistment of volunteers in community service.

Outreach at North Christian Church means:

  • Being concerned about our planet and doing our part in making it a healthy place for our children and grandchildren

  • Building and maintaining a garden and sharing produce with others

  • Sponsoring a Holiday Market during Thanksgiving weekend – selling crafts from artisans around the world to enable them to earn a living

  • Using Equal Exchange/Fair Traded Coffee at church functions

  • Saving pennies for Pennies For Peace, project of the Central Asia Institute, to build schools, pay teacher salaries, buy supplies etc. in NW Pakistan and NE Afghanistan

  • Cooking and serving hot meals for the marginalized in Columbus

  • Participating in the Empty Bowl event

  • Supporting mission trips to US locations and Kenya to repair, build or rebuild

  • Supporting Bread for the World organization

  • Collecting food for the food pantry at Love Chapel

  • Financially supporting the Ecumenical Assembly of Bartholomew County Churches assistance programs

  • Encouraging members to participate in Housing Partnerships

  • Seeking to make North Christian Church an inclusive church, which includes encouraging dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity as we welcome LGBT Christians into our community life

  • Supporting the six special offerings of the Disciples of Christ Church
