Rev. Tonja M. Gerardy
Rev. Tonja M. Gerardy began as Transitional Minister at North Christian Church in July of 2016. On December 9, 2018, she was installed as the settled minister.
Tonja uses the pronouns she/her/hers, and grew up in Kansas and Colorado. After receiving her BA in Religious Studies from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, she returned to her native Indiana to acquire a Masters of Divinity degree from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis.
Tonja has served churches in Franklin, Indianapolis, and Carmel, as well as held positions on the regional and general levels of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Tonja has also served as manager of various health food stores in Indianapolis and Greenwood.
Tonja is married to Tamara Jeffers, and together they are parents to Max (the cat) and Paco (the dog), and foster parents to Coconut (yet another dog). Tonja and Tamara are active in animal rescue, enjoy camping and travel, and, if they had their way, would live year-round in Cinderella’s Castle at Walt Disney World.
Nancy Hoover began as Community Ambassador at North Christian Church in September 2019.
Dr. Nancy Hoover has been in K12 and higher education for 52 years, retiring in November 2018. She has been a teacher and department head in K12, and a faculty member, department head, program director, project coordinator, dean, vice president, provost, and interim president in community colleges, colleges, and universities.
Nancy moved to Columbus in 1967. While living in Columbus, Nancy was a teacher at Northside and East in the late 60s and the 70s and founded drama programs at both schools.
While living in other communities, Nancy accumulated a long record of community involvement. Since returning to Columbus to live in 2017, Nancy has volunteered with Book Buddies, Bartholomew County Indivisible, and the Democratic Party. She particularly enjoyed interacting with voters at the 2018 Bartholomew County Fair.
Kim Wadholm joined the North Christian Church team in April 2018.
Kim is originally from the southeastern Wisconsin area but relocated to Columbus from North Dakota in the fall of 2017. While out west, she earned her bachelor's degree in Biblical and General Studies from Trinity Bible College and Graduate School in Ellendale, ND as well as gained an array of professional and customer service skills.
Kim can usually be found cooking up a new recipe in the kitchen, working in the garden, or laughing with her spouse, Alfie. The two enjoy traveling, playing board or card games with friends, and catching a show—live theater, comedic/musical performances, or the latest Marvel movie!
Director of Music
Travis Whaley began as Director of Music at North Christian Church in October 2018.
Travis grew up in Cary, North Carolina before moving to Virginia for college. He holds Bachelors’ of Arts degrees in Piano Performance, Composition and German from Virginia Tech. He received an M.A. in Musicology and M.M. in Organ Performance from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, where he is currently a doctoral student pursuing a Ph.D. in Musicology.
Travis enjoys Star Wars, Bach and NASCAR in no particular order. He and his partner, Payton, live in Bloomington where they can usually be found at the local comic book store.
